ProSCT SPD Component Tester
Raycap ProSCT (SPD Component Tester) is a portable measuring device that tests commonly used components in surge arresters—gas discharge tube (GDT), metal oxide varistor (MOV), and transient voltage suppressor (TVS). It can test up to 1500 V DC, automatically detects the type of connected component, and lists measurements in LOG mode. The battery-operated device with an internal charger features a 320 × 240 pixel color TFT touch screen and robust housing.
It is not possible to visually determine the integrity of a surge arrester. The green flag indicator only shows whether the thermal disconnector has activated—not the extent of varistor degradation. The decision to replace a suspicious module or continue its use requires measurement.
ProSCT was developed to perform this measurement in the field. The device tests the three main protection elements used in surge arresters:
- MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) — Breakdown voltage measurement, with selectable test current (0.1 mA / 0.5 mA / 1 mA). Measurement error 1.5% ± 2 digits.
- GDT (Gas Discharge Tube) — Ignition voltage measurement, with selectable voltage ramp (100 V/s / 1000 V/s). Measurement error 1.6% ± 2 digits at 100 V/s, 3.5% ± 2 digits at 1 kV/s.
- TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) — Diode-based suppressor measurement.
Maximum test voltage is 1500 V DC — allowing testing of both LV and PV (1500 V) class components.
The device automatically detects the type of connected component — the user does not need to pre-select a mode. LOG mode displays a list of sequential measurements; all modules in a panel can be tested in sequence and results compared.
The 320 × 240 pixel color TFT display and touch interface simplify use. The device operates on a rechargeable battery (included), features an internal charger, and is suitable for field conditions with its robust ABS (UL-94-HB) housing. Versions with a carrying case are available.
The ProSCT SPD Adapter (optional accessory) is used to connect the DIN rail base unit to the ProSCT device. The base unit is designed to accept different generations of Raycap SPD modules: older SPD flat contacts, NPE bullet contact, and two new SPD spring contacts (for 1 TE and 2 TE modules). It connects to the device with a banana plug cable.
Products comply with EN 61626-1 and IEC 61010-1 standards; RoHS and CE certified.
