Grounding is designed and implemented with equipment that will remain underground as long as a facility exists. You do not have the chance to change the foundation grounding of a building after 20 years; or it is not easy to re-excavate and change the grounding of a completed solar power plant. Therefore, the quality of the equipment used during grounding is extremely important. In order for the resistance value to remain the same for many years, high-quality products must be used and additional measures against corrosion must be taken. Grounding carried out just to get through the day will return to us as non-functional after a short time and systemic failures will occur. For this reason, the Selection of Grounding Equipment is extremely important.
As Yılkomer, the grounding equipment we use in our projects and from which we do not compromise on quality are products manufactured in accordance with IEC standards. The wall thickness and metal densities of the products comply with IEC 62305 and IEC 50164 Standards. Compliance with standards must be taken as a basis in product selection.

Basically, we can divide the grounding equipment included in our product range into 4 product groups;
1 – Grounding Conductors
- Galvanized strip grounding conductor
- Galvanized single-wire grounding conductor
- Copper round grounding conductors
- Stainless Steel grounding conductor
2 – Grounding Electrodes
- Copper grounding electrodes
- Galvanized round grounding electrodes
- Galvanized angle grounding electrodes
- Stainless Steel grounding electrodes
3 – Equipotential grounding bars
4 – Grounding equipment connection elements

The dimensions of these products; their sizes may vary. What we need to do here is to select the quantity and products by calculating after measuring the specific resistance at the location where grounding will be applied. You can access sample grounding calculations in our blog post from 2 posts ago.

Basic points to pay attention to when selecting grounding products and during application.
- Grounding products must have standard certificates.
- If galvanized products are to be selected, hot-dip galvanized products must be preferred.
- The wall thickness of connection clamps must not be outside the standard. For example, products with a wall thickness of 1mm should not be preferred.
- The screws of the connection elements must be selected as stainless steel.
- Grounding should be started based on a depth of 80 cm at the location where grounding will be applied.
- Different metals should not be connected to each other. For example, if galvanized is started, the project can be completed entirely with galvanized equipment; this is not a technical deficiency.
- If different metals are to be connected to each other, bimetal connection elements should be used.
- Corrosion tape should be used at connection joint points and clamp points.

- In grounding electrode connections, the application of H Type connection clamp and corrosion tape will yield better results in the long term. Incorrectly made exothermic welding connections have a risk of breaking over time.
- Copper and Galvanized products can be used in underground applications, however Aluminum products are not suitable for underground applications.
