ACTIVE 1D+ is a next-generation Early Streamer Emission (ESE) active lightning conductor designed for maximum safety in storm conditions.

Its operating principle is based on the polarization of the internal oscillator circuit connected to the lightning conductor tip. As the precursor events of a lightning strike approach, this internal circuit is powered by the natural corona effect, raising the tip to a high voltage potential above 20 kV. This occurs simultaneously with the lightning precursor events.

The strong increase in ionization in the tip region ensures that the upward streamer is initiated at precisely the right moment; this channel merges with the downward leader from the cloud, safely capturing the lightning.

The lightning conductor is powered by the atmospheric electric field — it requires no external energy source. It operates independently, taking cloud polarity into account, and requires no special maintenance.

The nickel-plated copper tip improves laboratory results and increases the triggering potential due to its geometry. The body is 304L stainless steel, the deflector is polycarbonate, and the internal insulation is PTFE.

The performance of the lightning conductor is defined by its Δt value. Δt indicates the triggering advance compared to a conventional lightning conductor and allows for the calculation of the protection radius according to NF C 17-102:2011.
