DC Power Systems – Narrow Line
The Raycap RayDat Narrow Line DC power series (NPS-2) protects DC supply lines in protocols requiring combined power and signal line protection, such as CAN bus and DeviceNet. With its ultra-compact 6.2 mm width, it provides maximum density within the panel; it carries up to 12 A load current, can be used in AC and DC systems, and offers uninterrupted maintenance with hot-swapping support.
In some industrial communication protocols, power and signal are carried within the same cable. CAN bus and DeviceNet are typical examples: the same cable contains both data lines and a DC power line that supplies the devices. In this architecture, protecting the signal line alone is not enough — a surge from the power supply line will also shut down the entire segment.
The RayDat Narrow Line DC series (NPS-2) was developed specifically for the protection of these power lines. By using it side-by-side on the same rail with analog and digital Narrow Line modules, both the signal and power sides of a CAN/DeviceNet segment are fully protected.
The most distinctive feature of the series is its 6.2 mm width — less than half the width of classic modules. In automation panels with numerous nodes, this is a direct advantage reflected in the number of panels.
The device carries a 12 A load current (at 40 °C) — one of the highest values in the Narrow Line family. The series resistance per path is only 0.1 Ω, meaning it does not create a significant voltage drop in the supply line. It can be used in both AC and DC systems (Uc 38 V AC/DC).
The protection structure is a MOV (varistor) + GDT (gas discharge tube) combination: MOV operates line-to-line, GDT operates line-to-ground. The protection level is 250 V line-to-line and 650 V line-to-ground. The response time is < 25 ns. Thermal protection is included.
Hot-swapping capability is critical: when the protection module is removed from the base, the connection lines remain active — module replacement does not stop the bus segment. The green flag / red flag indicator on the front panel instantly shows the status. Additionally, a monitoring unit (transmitter and receiver) is available for all product variants.
Quick-connect terminals shorten field installation time. The product complies with IEC/EN 61643-21 and UL 497B 4th Edition standards. Classification: C1 / C2 / C3.
