Why Should Rooftop Solar Power Plants Be Protected from Lightning and Sudden Overvoltage?

Lightning and sudden overvoltage surges cause serious damage not only to power lines but also to communication and data lines. Using only power surge protectors does not prevent damage to communication systems. A strong lightning strike is not required for communication lines to be damaged by lightning. Especially communication lines located in open areas can be damaged even by ion movement occurring between clouds and the earth. Therefore, Type 3 surge protective devices must be used on communication lines. Type 3 SPD systems provide protection for wired lines such as RS485 and RS232, and also include specialized products for lines such as RJ45, CAT6, and RJ11.
Our SLH series products, designed by Raycap for the protection of communication lines, provide superior protection even at very high surge levels. The products have a modular structure and their cartridges are replaceable. During cartridge replacement, the line continues to operate without interruption. The SLH 4 series is only 12 mm wide and can protect up to 4 lines, allowing maximum protection while occupying very little space. The products feature easy DIN-rail mounting terminals.

Raycap Raydat SLH series surge protective devices offer continuous operating voltage options from 5 Volts up to 110 V DC. The continuous operating voltage is very important in SPD selection. Therefore, SPDs must be selected according to the appropriate continuous operating voltage. For example, for a system operating at 35 volts, the SLH 4-24V series would not be suitable.
