Raycorr is a voltage-induced corrosion prevention system for pipelines. Lightning and AC-DC leakage current–induced corrosion on pipelines cause major problems. Voltage-induced corrosion, which causes the system to reach the end of its service life in a very short time, also creates safety issues, especially in gas-carrying lines. Lightning strikes directly hitting or striking near pipelines pose a major risk for pipelines. Nearly 10% of failures occurring on pipelines are lightning-related.
What Are the Causes of DC Corrosion on Pipelines?
1) Iron contained in the steel alloy tends to dissolve. It becomes a solution in the form of Fe++
2) Moisture and air trapped between the pipe coating
3) External factors outside the pipeline; Soil, Moisture level, pH, Soil Resistance
4) DC current leakages coming from the cathodic protection system
5) Transients and current leakages originating from power lines
6) Lightning strikes hitting directly or near the facility or pipelines
The RAYCORR system is a special surge arrester and corrosion prevention system designed for pipelines. It instantly eliminates sudden overvoltage and prevents lightning and possible leakages from damaging the pipeline. The use of the Raycorr protection system is a necessity for critical pipelines.
While Raycorr provides overvoltage protection for the DC power supply used in cathodic protection, it also suppresses all sudden overvoltage surges along the entire pipeline.
