Types of Residual Current Circuit Breakers
18 April 2020Lightning and sudden overvoltage surges continue to damage our electrical systems with an increasing trend every day. As we enter the spring season, when we compare our country’s lightning strike coefficient with the last 5 years and review meteorological data, it has increased by 7 times. In parallel with the lightning risk, sudden voltage spikes also affect facilities due to the lack of line and transformer renewals by electricity distribution companies; in addition to these, especially in facilities where drives and motors operate, harmonics and sudden overvoltage surges generated by the facility itself cause failures in systems.
At this point, we would like to introduce our Type 2+3 surge arrester series, which we recommend for use in internal facility panels and which can provide sensitive protection against internal overvoltages.
Produced by Raycap, for which we carry the country responsibility, and especially after taking the necessary precautions against lightning at the main incoming panel in facilities that complain about sensitive board failures, you can use our Type 2+3 surge arrester product in drive sub-panels; motor panels; CNC machines; and on the end-user side in floor panels in homes; pool panels; irrigation system panels.

The Raycap PROTEC CR 160 3+1 TYPE 2+3 LV SURGE ARRESTER Series creates a serious difference in this field with its 25 ns response time and TOV 1200 V level. The product features MOV and Gas Discharge Tube hybrid technology and has a pluggable design with a 3-indicator cartridge warning system. Our Type 2+3 surge arrester product, tested according to IEC 61643-11 Standard, shows resistance against surges with a peak value of 40 kA on phase-earth and earth-neutral lines on the 8/20 microsecond curve. The Icw (short-circuit current of the combination wave generator) value being 5 kA is an important indicator of its ability to react to sensitive spikes. Instead of using only Type 2 surge arresters, using Type 2+3 surge arresters—especially on power lines where external Type 3 surge arresters are not used—will allow us to provide more accurate protection with the Raycap PROTEC C TYPE 2+3 Series. However, we recommend additionally using Type 3 surge arresters on non-power lines entering your system such as Ethernet lines; POE lines; RS232 and RS485 communication lines; and coaxial lines.
