Protection of Robot Control Panels Against Sudden Overvoltage

Digitization and autonomous systems coming with Industry 4.0 are taking their place in production factories a little more every day. In 2015, 253,748 robots were sold worldwide. The vast majority of these robots serve in production lines in factories. Autonomous production systems, which increase every year, reveal another threat. These highly sensitive production systems can easily be damaged by sudden overvoltage impulses.

For the protection of robot systems against sudden overvoltage, LV surge arrester systems must be used in a cascaded manner. First of all, since these systems are very sensitive, it would be correct to select products with low Up levels and combined features.

First, we will select a combined product for our main panel feeding the robot line. Our recommendation at this point will be an LV surge arrester with Safetec technology providing Type 1+2+3 100 kA protection.

Secondly, the sub-distribution panel where the robot lines are fed should be protected with a Type 2+3 product. Thus, the first step of cascaded protection will be realized.
