6 Features That a Surge Arrester Must Have
18 October 2015Protection of Power Plants Against Lightning and Overvoltage
29 October 2015As buildings become smarter, KNX automation systems and DALI lighting automation are being used more frequently and in a more up-to-date manner. Thanks to KNX and DALI, users can install systems independently of the brand. However, both KNX and DALI are highly sensitive systems and should especially be protected against electromagnetic surges.

Thanks to the KNX open system protocol, automation systems have become more widespread in buildings.
While protecting KNX and DALI lines, they should be safeguarded against both lightning and internal overvoltage surges. At this point, protection cannot be achieved with only an external lightning system. When lightning strikes our building or nearby, the resulting electromagnetic field can damage our lines. In addition, the inductive or capacitive coupling effect caused by lightning strikes can harm KNX systems. Similarly, electromagnetic interference resulting from lightning discharge can deactivate lines.
For the reasons explained above, in addition to external lightning protection systems, internal lightning parafudr systems should also be used to protect KNX and DALI lines. These surges will be prevented from damaging the lines by using Class D parafudrs, which provide sensitive protection. Both KNX and DALI automation systems are long-lasting, high-investment systems. To extend the lifespan and investment level of these systems, full protection against lightning and overvoltage surges is essential.
