In solar power plants, DC sections must be protected against sudden overvoltage surges. Especially in rooftop solar power plants, DC line protections may be neglected due to lack of space. However, a possible surge can disable the entire system and damage the inverters. Since designing the protection system seems complex and due to space constraints, EPC companies generally tend not to implement protection in this area; however, damage records from the field clearly show that LV surge protection devices must also be used on DC lines.
The DC protection system PROTEC T2 PV-BOX designed by Raycap not only offers a compact design but also provides very easy installation. The PROTEC T2 PV Series, which can provide protection against the strongest peaks, has been tested according to EN 50539-11. It has a protection rating of 40 kA on the 8/20 ms waveform.
