ProTec T2 PV Box Series
The Raycap ProTec T2 PV Box is a pre-assembled compact connection box that protects solar inverters from overvoltages on the DC side. It contains a Class II / Type 2 surge arrester; available in 1100 V and 1500 V DC options, in a UV-resistant housing up to IP 67, for single and dual MPP tracker applications.
The ProTec T2 PV Box series is a ready-to-use DC protection box with a factory-assembled Class II / Type 2 surge arrester. It requires no separate panel, DIN rail, or terminal block work; it is quickly commissioned by surface mounting next to the inverter.
Type 2 protection does not carry direct lightning current; it reduces overvoltages induced by nearby strikes and those resulting from grid switching to a level the inverter can withstand. This is the most commonly used protection class in PV sites if there is no external lightning protection (lightning rod) or if the risk of a direct strike is low. If there is a risk of a direct strike, the ProTec T1 PV Box should be preferred.
Discharge capacity is up to 40 kA (8/20 µs); the protection level is Up < 4.2 kV for the 1100 V version and Up < 4.8 kV for the 1500 V version. Response time is < 25 ns. Offering a lower protection level (Up) compared to the T1 version is an advantage for sensitive inverter electronics.
On the connection side, there are tool-free (push-in) terminals and MC4 connector options; strings are connected directly. The protection class is IP 67 for the cable gland version and IP 65 for the rubber grommet version. Thanks to the UV-resistant semi-transparent polycarbonate cover, the device status can be read from the green flag indicator without opening the box – suitable for outdoor installation.
All models include a thermal disconnector (TD): the end-of-life varistor is safely disconnected from the circuit; since arcs do not self-extinguish in DC circuits, this is a decisive factor in eliminating fire risk. The products comply with EN 61643-31:2019 and IEC 61643-31:2018 standards.
Model families:

The ProTec T2 PV Box is used for protection against induced overvoltages on the DC side of solar power plants:
- Installations without external lightning protection — Most common protection class against induced impulses
- Rooftop PV installations — 1100 V DC systems
- Ground-mounted and commercial PV sites — 1500 V DC systems
- Inverter DC input — Quick protection with surface mounting next to the inverter
- Outdoor installation — With IP 67 housing and UV-resistant cover for open areas
- Inverters with single and dual MPPTs — With 3Y-L and 5Y-L model options
- Long DC cable routes — Lines with increased induction risk
- Second stage after Type 1 — Fine protection in a cascaded protection chain
- Residential and SME-scale rooftop systems — Compact 160 × 120 × 91 mm housing
- Projects requiring fast commissioning — Pre-boxed, tool-free connection
