ProTec T2 DCGU 3Y

Raycap ProTec T2 DCGU 3Y is a DIN rail-mounted, pluggable Class II surge protection device (SPD) specifically developed for DC electric vehicle (EV) charging applications. It meets the requirements of the DC fast charging standard IEC 61851-23 and is compliant with IEC 61643-41 and UL 1449 5th Edition Annex SB. Available in 1000 V and 1500 V DC versions, it offers a discharge capacity of up to 40 kA.

ProTec T2 DCGU 3Y is a surge protection device specifically designed for DC EV charging stations. Unlike general-purpose DC surge arresters, it is developed to meet the unique requirements of DC fast charging infrastructure: the device meets the requirements of IEC 61851-23 (DC EV charging standard) and complies with IEC 61643-41:2025, prepared for DC EV charging SPDs.

The device is classified as DC SPD Type 4CA and designed for unipolar DC charging systems. It can be used in grounded and ungrounded unipolar networks, as well as TN, TT, and IT systems. The protection mode covers (+)-PE/G, (-)-PE/G, and (+)-(-) directions, meaning both line-to-ground and line-to-line protection are provided in a single device.

One of the defining features of the product for EV charging applications is its leakage current-free design. In EV charging systems, insulation monitoring circuits are actively operating; continuous leakage current passing through the surge arrester can lead to false fault signals in these circuits. The leakage current-free structure eliminates this problem.

The pluggable module structure simplifies maintenance: the end-of-life protection module can be replaced without removing the base unit and wiring, reducing charging station downtime. Each pole includes a thermal disconnector (TD); the end-of-life varistor is safely disconnected from the circuit. The green flag / not green indicator on the front panel facilitates status checks, and with the optional remote signal contact (-R), fault information can be transmitted to the charging station's monitoring system.

Discharge capacity is at In 20 kA, Imax 40 kA, ITotal 65 kA (8/20 µs). Short-circuit withstand capability is 50 kA for the 1000 V version and 100 kA for the 1500 V version (L/R < 3 ms) — designed for the high short-circuit currents of DC charging infrastructure. The wide operating temperature range of -40 °C … +85 °C is suitable for outdoor charging station cabinets.
