It provides protection against high-frequency overvoltages induced through the grounding system by atmospheric discharges, electromagnetic pulses, and other sources.

Even when lightning strikes at a distance from a protected structure, the resulting surge can travel hundreds of meters and enter the structure through conductive parts. The dinfil reduces the high-frequency component of this surge, while the remaining low-frequency component is diverted to ground by a surge protective device (SPD).
