7 Devices Sensitive to Overvoltages
29 December 2015In a facility, sections under electrical voltage must be isolated from non-electrified sections for the reliability and sustainability of the installation. Proper insulation ensures both personal safety and protection of assets. Additionally, the insulation of electrical and electronic devices must be complete.

Insulation Resistance Measurement
Insulation resistance measurement, also known as insulation testing, is performed by applying DC voltage to the dielectric material and measuring the current passing through it. The resistance value is then calculated according to Ohm’s Law based on the measured voltage and current.
Where Should Insulation Testing Be Performed?
- Cables, transformers, and insulating parts of electrical equipment
- Electric motors
- Generators
The higher the insulation resistance, the safer the system. Devices with low insulation should never be operated and their insulation must be replaced.
