Why Are Your Solar Power Plants Getting Damaged?
13 February 2016Lightning Protection and Grounding of Rail Systems
15 February 2016With the transition of communication lines from traditional copper lines to the optical world, more complex systems have emerged. These systems, which offer superior performance, have become even more sensitive as they have become more electronic. ADSL, modems, and splitters are indispensable for our communication and internet lines. Telecom lines are the systems that require the highest level of protection, as they are exposed to more surges than standard lines, carry more secondary surges as “follow current,” and transmit environmental surges into our systems. A lightning strike hitting the cable route is sufficient for the surge to reach our system.
In almost all projects, the focus is on power protection products. While power lines are protected with low-voltage surge protection devices, data lines must also be protected with Class D surge protectors. Modem inputs are extremely important in automation systems, server rooms, and all systems where data transmission is required. Available data shows that, for example, in fuel stations, the impact of surges entering through the modem is very significant in automation system failures. All these indicators show that modem and splitter inputs must be protected. Since these lines predominantly have RJ11 inputs, Class D sensitive protection modules suitable for system characteristics should be used. When modems are disabled, all communication is instantly cut off, and a very small precaution can prevent major losses. This issue, which IT managers should pay special attention to, constitutes the main source of complaints we receive.
RJ11 protection modules eliminate surges directed at the system in a very short time, such as 25 ns, preventing the system from even detecting the surge. But is using only this protection sufficient to keep the entire system operational? The answer to this question is clearly stated in IEC standards. Sensitive protections, which form the final stage of coordinated protection, are part of a complete protection package covering power, data, and coaxial lines. If an automation system exists and data loss is of strategic importance, these lines must be protected. A technical site survey followed by the selection of the correct protection products is crucial for sustainable operation. As Yılkomer, our goal is to raise awareness among our customers and protect them from adverse scenarios. You can contact us for site surveys and product requests.
