24 April 2022Important Points in Grounding of Cable Trays
Tray clamps are extremely strategic products for routing the grounding conductor over cable trays. In order for grounding to progress smoothly throughout the entire facility and to ensure the grounding of trays carrying all power cables, these products must provide maximum conductivity. It is very important that the product has an anticorrosive structure and does not lose its properties over time. For the purpose of grounding cable trays, routing the grounding conductor throughout the facility, and ensuring equipotential bonding, grounding tray clamps are used on cable trays in many facilities. The product, generally manufactured from brass to provide anticorrosive effectiveness and known as a brass tray clamp, should primarily be used in tunnels, subways, busbars, and all facilities with cable trays, fixing the conductor every 1 meter.
The product is manufactured according to all conductor cross-sections.
6mm2, 10mm2, 16mm2, 25mm2, 35mm2, 50mm2, 70mm2, 95mm2, 120mm2, 150mm2, 240mm2 are the main commonly used conductor cross-sections.
Important points in cable tray grounding
*Wire-made or non-metallic cable carriers cannot be used as grounding conductors. An additional grounding conductor is required for these products.
*The grounding conductor must be routed inside the cable tray and fixed with tray clamps.
*Bare copper conductors cannot be used as grounding conductors in aluminum cable trays.
*Grounding is mandatory in trays carrying communication, data, and signal cables. At all joints along the cable route, the grounding line must be completed with jumper conductors. Even if there is an external grounding conductor, jumpers must still be used.
Grounding of cable trays is extremely important for preventing arcs and fires that may occur during ground faults, eliminating interference, and ensuring healthy operation.
In our country, connecting widely used trays to the grounding network at certain intervals is not an appropriate method. It is important that the grounding conductor is fixed along the entire cable tray line with tray clamps. In addition, jumper conductors must be used at every tray joint. Jumpers will also serve as an alternative grounding short-circuit path for the trays.
Grounding tray clamps and grounding conductors in all sizes are included in Yılkomer’s product range. You can contact the Yılkomer technical team for technical details and product selection.
