8 November 2020Measurement of antistatic floors; obtaining an ESD Floor report and performing periodic inspections are extremely important, especially for facilities that carry the risk of explosion, fire, and ignition as a result of possible static electricity. In addition, static electricity has many effects on human health. Electrostatic discharge contact is the sudden flow of electricity between two electrically charged objects due to a short circuit or dielectric failure. ESD can cause a visible spark when differently charged objects approach each other or when the dielectric between them breaks down. This can actually be described as a sudden overvoltage. Many devices can malfunction during this sudden charge movement. Especially in areas where sensitive devices such as laboratories are located, static electricity can cause many problems. In order to eliminate static electricity, antistatic working surfaces must be created; for this purpose, special floor coverings are used. These floors are also grounded, and the grounding must be kept under continuous control. As a result of antistatic discharge, devices may not fail immediately; however, faulty operation or complete shutdown may be observed over time. In order to prevent these negative situations, it is important to use antistatic floor products and to carry out their periodic inspections.

Due to the movement of electrons with different charges, voltage measurements of up to 30 kV have been observed. In addition, electrostatic discharges below 2000 volts are invisible and cannot be perceived by a human. This shows us how high the resulting voltages can be. In order to prevent this, conductivity measurements of the antistatic floors used must definitely be carried out. Inspections must be prepared by authorized engineers in accordance with the ASTM F150 standard.
In antistatic ESD floor measurements, mobile electrostatic field measuring devices are used. Generally, measurements are carried out for each square meter. The points contacted by the probes of the measuring instruments must be clean.
As Yılkomer, antistatic floor measurement (ESD Electro Static Discharge) is carried out by our expert engineers and is approved by our Authorized Electrical Engineer and presented to you.
