The ProTec T2-PV product series comprises high-performance, pluggable Type 2 surge protective devices, engineered for DC power protection in photovoltaic systems. An ideal solution for string combiner boxes and PV inverters, compatible with both 1100 V DC and 1500 V DC systems.

Type 2 protection does not carry direct lightning current; it reduces induced and switching overvoltages to a level the device can withstand. This is the most common protection class in PV sites when no external lightning protection (external lightning arrester) is present on the building or if the risk of direct strike is low. If there is a risk of direct strike, Type 1 (ProTec T1-PV) should be preferred.

All devices in the series feature low-profile modules and offer 11 kA short-circuit withstand capability. A critical component is the precise and reliable disconnector: in DC circuits, arcs do not self-extinguish, making the safe disconnection of an end-of-life varistor a decisive factor in eliminating fire risk.

Products are classified as Class II / Type 2 PV SPD, Type 1CA and comply with UL 1449 5th Edition, IEC 61643-31:2018, and EN 61643-31:2019 standards. Vibration and shock resistance meet the mechanical conditions of field-type power plants. Suitable for both US and European markets.
