The use of insulated lightning down conductors in lightning protection system designs has become mandatory not only in accordance with IEC standards but also due to developing technological structures. Considering the damage that a possible lightning strike may cause to communication systems and production lines, the risks of fire, and the risk of electric shock due to touch voltage, the use of insulated lightning protection conductors and insulated lightning protection equipment stands out as the most ideal lightning protection design. Insulated lightning down conductors are used for discharging the lightning strike from the air terminal to the ground in conductor surface descents; in steel construction structures; in lightning down conductors where the S protection distance cannot be ensured; in mechanical shaft transitions; and especially in flammable and explosive facilities and ex-proof areas.
