5 Measurements Every Electrical Engineer Must Regularly Perform in Factories
14 August 2016Lightning Protection Center as the Lightning Protection Center, we design and implement lightning protection systems based on the IEC 62305 standard by creating different designs according to system characteristics, structural features, and risk conditions, primarily using the rolling sphere method. With our new drawing software, we have started 3D Lightning Protection system designs. Especially, design based on the structural features revealed by risk analysis is extremely important. Unfortunately, in our country, every building and facility is evaluated the same way, and the lightning rod system is commissioned with identical application parameters for every structure. However, since we believe this approach is incorrect, we prefer to perform a separate risk analysis for each facility. In ex-proof environments, flammable and explosive facilities, metal construction structures, residential complexes, production facilities, and facilities with high human density, we must apply different solutions, use different products, and create different designs. Within the scope of standards and engineering practices, we cannot evaluate an explosion-risk tank and a reinforced concrete risk-free building in the same category. Therefore, demonstrating facility risk through software using the Rolling Sphere Method and configuring systems with ex-proof and certified protection products is the most accurate solution.
At this point, we strive to create accurate designs for insulated and ex-proof lightning protection systems, especially together with our German partners. Our 3D lightning protection design studies started in July 2016. Performing individual risk analyses for all buildings within a facility and prioritizing the preparation of a comprehensive lightning protection project is the most accurate solution. Within this scope, we provide this service to facilities; our expert engineers conduct detailed inspections in accordance with IEC 62305 standards and prepare a risk map and a corresponding lightning protection project.
Lightning air terminals used by selecting insulated connection components of different sizes are designed to be fully insulated and configured with ex-proof or insulated system accessories that ensure the S separation distance according to the facility’s characteristics. Equipotential bonding is ensured with special spark gap products. At this point, it is extremely important that even the smallest connection component has test certifications such as 200 kA, as a possible arc can pose a fire and explosion risk throughout the entire facility.

Having a Risk analysis carried out within the scope of the IEC 62305 standard, drawing a corresponding lightning protection design project, and preparing implementation details and survey studies will allow you to have a safe lightning protection system design with our new 3D drawing strategy.
One of the key points to remember is that while the external lightning protection system protects people and structures from physical effects, the LV surge arrester system provides electrical protection. Therefore, in order not to compromise system integrity, we perform LV surge arrester surveys and reporting in facilities in parallel with our external lightning protection risk analysis studies.
