nVent ERICO Copper-Clad Grounding Rod — Threaded

Cold-rolled threaded, copper-clad steel grounding rod. 99.9% pure electrolytic copper coating, high-carbon steel core. Ø12.7 – 23.1 mm diameter, 0.91 – 4.57 m length options. IEC EN 62561-2 compliant models available.

The nVent ERICO copper-clad grounding rod is a threaded electrode used in grounding installations.

The core of the rod is high-carbon steel — this provides superior strength during driving. The tip is also made of the same material. The outer surface is coated with 99.9% pure electrolytic copper.

A distinguishing feature of the product is its cold-rolled threads. Unlike the cut-threading method, in cold rolling, the metal's grain flow remains uninterrupted and continuous. This has two consequences:

  • The copper coating is preserved — not cut or abraded
  • The thread is stronger than a cut thread

The copper coating does not crack when the rod is bent, and does not tear during driving.

Within 30.5 cm (12″) from the chamfered end of each rod, the nVent ERICO name, length, diameter, and part number are stamped. Where applicable, the UL logo and control number are also stamped on each rod — this ensures inspection is possible even after installation.

Rods can be joined end-to-end with a coupling and driven to the desired depth.

  • Cold-rolled thread — uninterrupted grain flow, stronger than cut thread
  • 99.9% pure electrolytic copper coating
  • High-carbon steel core and tip — superior strength for driving
  • Copper coating does not crack when bent, does not tear when driven
  • Minimum 10 mil (254 µm) copper coating on UL 467 listed rods
  • Heavy-duty models with 13 mil (330 µm) coating available
  • Brand, length, diameter, and part number stamped on rod — within 30.5 cm of chamfered end
  • UL logo and control number on each rod — allows post-installation inspection
  • Tensile strength: min. 80,000 lbf/in² (≈ 552 MPa)
  • Material: copper-clad steel
  • Tip type: pointed + chamfered (chamfered only on one model)
