nVent ERICO Cadweld Plus Impulse — Exothermic Welding Ignition Unit

Cadweld Plus exothermic welding system electronic ignition control unit. Remote and safe ignition without opening the mold. Powered by AA batteries or Milwaukee / DEWALT rechargeable battery. 5-second ignition delay, LED counter, self-closing trigger housing. 1.83 m and 4.57 m cable options.

Cadweld Plus Impulse is nVent ERICO's latest model in exothermic welding ignition systems. The manufacturer describes the product as offering "the highest flexibility and ease of use among ignition systems".

The unit's distinguishing feature is its power supply flexibility: it operates with standard, off-the-shelf AA batteries, or with rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs already present on site.

Its body, designed in an electric power tool form factor, provides an ergonomic grip. The trigger is protected by a self-closing enclosure — preventing accidental ignition.

A five-second delay is activated after the ignition command is given. This period allows the operator to stop the process if necessary.

The LED ignition counter on the body provides instant feedback on ignition timing and is readable even in sunny outdoor conditions.

Safety

  • Self-closing trigger housing — prevents accidental ignition
  • 5-second ignition delay — allows stopping the process if necessary
  • Remote ignition without opening the mold
  • Cable options: 1.83 m and 4.57 m — operator stands away from the weld point

Ease of Use

  • Ergonomic body in electric power tool form factor
  • LED ignition counter — readable in sunny outdoor conditions
  • Battery life indicator — real-time status information
  • Alligator clip design indicates correct connection through the viewing window

Power Supply Flexibility

  • Operates with 8 standard AA batteries
  • Approximately 600 connections with AA alkaline batteries
  • Compatible with Milwaukee® or DEWALT® rechargeable batteries
  • Approximately 1,500 connections with a 4 Ah rechargeable battery
  • Battery adapters sold separately

Durability

  • High-temperature resistant cable, connected to the unit with a one-piece molded pass-through
  • This design makes the most frequently replaced part in ignition systems more robust and reliable
  • Operating temperature: −18 °C … +54 °C (0 – 130 °F)
