Cross Connector L-55 (Round / Flat Conductor)
Gromtor L-55 connects Ø8–10 mm round conductors with flat conductors up to 30 mm in cross (X) and T configurations. 55 × 55 mm body, four M8 × 25 bolts. Available in StZn, V2A, V4A, and copper options.
Conductor cross-sections in lightning protection systems are not uniform. Roof air termination networks typically use Ø8 round conductors, while foundation earthing and facade down conductors often utilize flat (strip) conductors. Each junction of these differing cross-sections necessitates a distinct connection solution.
The round-to-flat cross connector is designed precisely for this transition. One side of the body features a grooved channel for round conductors, while the other side's flat surface accommodates flat conductors. When the four bolts are tightened, both conductors are gripped securely with a wide contact surface, conforming to their respective profiles.
This distinction is crucial: forcing a clamp designed for round conductors onto a flat conductor reduces the contact surface to a single point. This increases connection resistance, causes heating at that point during impulse current, and eventually degrades the connection. The correct profile requires the correct clamp.
The L-55 model works with flat conductors up to 30 mm wide — the most common 30 × 3.5 mm and 30 × 4 mm galvanized strips in Turkey fall within this range.
