Rayvoss Protection System in Industrial Facilities
22 July 2019Boats are vehicles that lightning can easily prefer due to their long masts in the middle of the sea. Especially in open seas, a lightning strike on an unprotected yacht or boat poses a great danger. Above all, the risk of fire constitutes a major hazard. On boats, the strike must be insulated and conducted to the water. Instead of active systems, passive air terminals should be used within the scope of the IEC 62305 standard. For a medium-sized boat, the length of the insulated passive air terminal varies between 6200 mm and 8000 mm. Insulated air terminal systems must ensure that lightning is insulated from the boat by using special insulated lightning down conductors and special products such as spark gaps. In addition, surge arrester systems must definitely be used to prevent failures of electrical systems.
