Lightning Protection for Coaxial Lines
28 July 2020Copper Grounding Rod or Copper Grounding Electrodes. They appear as the first equipment that comes to mind when grounding systems are mentioned in our country. Although the use of copper in grounding applications is not mandatory, it is widely used in projects in our country.
Copper grounding electrode prices vary according to their dimensions; they can take different values every day depending on the increase in exchange rates.
20mm, 18mm, 16mm stand out as the most commonly used copper grounding diameters. Copper grounding electrodes used in lengths of 1 meter; 1.5 meters are the most preferred products in grounding applications due to reducing the risk of corrosion.
You can find the weights and dimensions of copper grounding electrodes below. When receiving prices, you can also get the price per kilogram by considering the current kg weight of copper.
In copper grounding rod applications, galvanized conductors and copper electrodes should not be directly connected to each other. Otherwise, a bimetal effect occurs. The bimetal effect initiates corrosion and increases the resistance value. Therefore, contact between metals of the same type should be ensured. If different types of metals are to be connected to each other, bimetal connection elements should be used. Copper electrodes can be interconnected with copper conductors in dimensions such as 50mm 2,95mm 2,120mm 2 via connection clamps. In clamp applications, wrapping the connection area with corrosion tape ensures a long service life of the application. Alternatively, in copper applications, it is appropriate to connect the conductor and the electrode to each other by exothermic welding. In exothermic welding applications, additional equipment such as an exothermic welding mold, pliers, brush, and powder must also be supplied. The H-type connection clamp and corrosion tape application appears as a more practical application. Technically, since no breakage will occur, it is at least as reliable as exothermic welding. When grounding with copper electrodes, they should be driven after a minimum depth of 60 cm. Copper electrodes may sometimes be requested by TEDAŞ and similar institutions in lengths of 2.5 meters, 3, 5 meters. In such cases, since it will be difficult to drive the product, it can be applied by combining 2 pieces, however, 1.5 meters is ideal. In rocky soils, since the use of grounding rods will be difficult, alternatively plate or mesh network applications can be made. In facilities where lightning protection grounding is applied, even if grounding is made with grounding electrodes, precautions should be taken against step voltage with a mesh network.
