15 July 2016Railway stations are inherently vulnerable to lightning and sudden surge impulses due to their natural structures. Moreover, there are many devices in stations that are sensitive to surge impulses. Therefore, these facilities must be protected with an LV surge arrester system by implementing cascaded protection. The protection of an example station can be designed as follows.
Example railway station
1- Main Panel Protection 3P+N Class B+C surge protection
2- Sub-Panel Protection 3P +N Class C surge protection
3- Energy Protection 220 V Class D surge protection
4- DC Protection POE or Cat Class D sensitive protection
5-For equipotential system spark gap arrester
6- DC Sensitive Protection 24….110 V
