The Importance of Cascaded Protection
Socket protection systems are Class D surge arresters. They are used as the final protection. In order for Class D surge arresters to fully perform their functions, Class B+C surge arresters must be used in main panels and Class C surge arresters must be used in sub-panels. Socket protection reduces the incoming surge to the desired level in terms of Up level. However, first of all, this incoming surge must be reduced to a level that the Class D surge arrester can handle in the main and sub-panels.

Socket protection can fully perform its function only in systems where cascaded protection is applied.
