B+C Class (Type 1+2) 100 kA Low Voltage Surge Protector
9 February 2016Protection of Telecom and Data Signals Against Overvoltage and Lightning
11 February 2016Since water treatment plants are installed over large-scale areas, they are unprotected against lightning strikes. As Yılkomer, we frequently encounter water treatment plants in lightning damage cases. Various washing systems, monitoring, and control services within treatment plants are vulnerable to lightning and overvoltage surges.
Devices That Require Protection Specific to Water Treatment Plants
- Level measurement devices
- pH measurement devices
- Flow measurement devices
These devices are often located in the Lightning Protection Level referred to as Zone 1 and must be protected with Class D surge protectors.
These facilities also have many structures with overhangs that can easily receive lightning strikes. These structures include;
- Communication lines (RS-232 etc.)
- Telecom lines
- Automation components
- Fire and alarm systems
- Card access systems
These systems must be primarily protected to prevent damage to other structures as well.
As we always state, full protection against lightning and overvoltage requires a four-stage protection system. These systems include external lightning protection, internal lightning protection, grounding, and equipotential bonding. Complete protection can only be achieved when all four systems are properly implemented. If you believe that any of these are missing or incorrectly applied in your facility, you can always contact Yılkomer engineers.
