Surge Arrester Lightning Counter

Lightning and sudden grid surge impulses being measured and kept under control is our common goal. As facility engineers, it is always desired to detect lightning impulses coming to the staged surge protection systems installed in our system via the low voltage surge protector without the product failing, and to verify whether the products truly provide effective protection. In varistor-based surge protection systems, the LEDs located on the devices change color or send a signal via the alarm contact output when a surge exceeding their capacity occurs, informing us that the cartridge has been damaged.

In Spark Gap and VG technology products, cartridges do not easily enter a failure state. However, in both cases, we want to measure and monitor the number of lightning impulses arriving at our main or sub-distribution panels within capacity limits. New-generation lightning and surge counters, working in coordination with surge lightning counters, can now be installed in our panels together with the surge protection system. Thus, during periodic inspections, we can monitor the number of impulses directed to our panel in parallel with the alarm contact output via the lightning counter system. Surge counters, developed for a purpose parallel to mechanical counters used on down conductors of external lightning protection systems, enhance our control mechanisms.
