In recent months, a lightning strike severely damaged all electrical systems and wooded areas of the Sabancı Family’s mansion in Yeniköy/Istanbul. The lightning protection design for this residence and the adjacent equestrian (Atlıspor) facility was carried out by YILKOMER.
In these projects, aesthetics and engineering were carefully combined, with special work performed in accordance with IEC 62305 standards, particularly for the protection of the horse stables. Using passive air terminals, isolated down-conductor systems, and—most importantly—spark gap protectors, a system was designed that fully preserved architectural integrity.
All necessary precautions were also taken to protect the horses from step voltage risks. All energy, data, and coaxial lines, along with satellite, communication, and security systems, were additionally secured with LV SURGE PROTECTION systems.
It is essential that lightning protection systems not only safeguard buildings and facilities but also integrate aesthetically with historical or architecturally sensitive structures.
Providing protection with minimal structural impact is a key design principle. Due to confidentiality, we cannot share project visuals, but for similar custom designs, you may contact the engineers at YILKOMER.
