Class C surge arresters must be used to protect against sudden internal overvoltages. Class C surge arresters tested with an 8/20 microsecond waveform should be used in sub-distribution panels, automation panels, elevator systems, and machine panels of facilities. Class C surge arresters are also referred to as Type 2 surge arresters. These types of surge arresters are connected to the system in parallel using a 6 mm2 cable.
