The systems that primarily suffer damage from lightning surges are usually communication systems. The endurance of these lines is limited to a few amperes. Even without a very strong surge, Ethernet, RJ45, and POE lines are damaged as a result of lightning strikes. So how should we protect Ethernet lines from lightning?<\/p>\n

Within the scope of the IEC 62305 standard, the protection of Ethernet, poe, and RJ45 lines should be provided with surge arrester products that we call Type 3. POE Surge Arrester products, which are generally integrated into the system in series, protect systems against surges coming from the relevant line. It is important that the products are tested within the scope of IEC 61643-11. Providing protection at both ends of a line prevents the surge induced on the line from being directed to the system. For example, if we are providing protection in a camera system, using two separate products on the switch and camera sides is the most correct solution. Otherwise, if we protect the switch side and leave the camera side unprotected, we will still cause damage to the camera board.<\/p>\n

The same issue exists in inverter communication lines in solar power plants. The communication line must be protected on both the input and output sides.<\/p>\n

In parallel with the increase in the number of lightning strikes in our country, communication line surge arresters, whose use is of great importance, should preferably be metal-bodied, DIN-rail grounded, and safetec technology. Products containing only diodes do not provide correct protection and are easily damaged. The product must provide protection with both a diode and a gas discharge tube.<\/p>\n
