What we have seen especially from our field experience is that the protection of these sensitive systems with <em><strong>Type 3 LV surge arresters <\/strong><\/em>is not performed, and main panel or sub-panel protection is considered sufficient. The subsequent protection stage is realized using fast bidirectional silicon diodes. Thus, the diodes are prevented from burning out due to the incoming lightning impulse. The impulse first passes through these tubes and is slowed down. Special design techniques have been used in the design of the protection stage.
