Moreover, tank and silo systems generally carry flammable and explosive materials. Fertilizer plants, cement production factories, oil filling facilities, etc. are particularly dangerous places, and these facilities must be <em><a href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/en\/\"><strong>lightning protected<\/strong><\/a><\/em> in accordance with the <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em><strong>IEC 62305<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>standard. The ionized system emitted by <strong>active terminals<\/strong> will increase the risk in the facility. After the <a href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/en\/lightning-risk-analysis-and-system-design\/\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em><strong>lightning risk analysis<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a> is performed, creating a protection zone according to the rolling sphere method will be the most correct method. Also, if the region is an ex-proof environment, it would be correct to choose <em><strong>ex-proof products<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5585\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5585\" style=\"width: 535px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/yuvarlanan-k%C3%BCre.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5585 \" src=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/yuvarlanan-k%C3%BCre.png\" alt=\"rolling-sphere\" width=\"535\" height=\"326\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5585\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Correct protection can be provided according to IEC 62305 standard with the rolling sphere method.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/tank-y%C4%B1ld%C4%B1r%C4%B1m-koruma.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5737 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/tank-y%C4%B1ld%C4%B1r%C4%B1m-koruma.jpg\" alt=\"tank-lightning-protection\" width=\"679\" height=\"784\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the image above, a design has been made for 3 different silos according to the building structure. All three designs have been calculated in accordance with the details in the <em><strong>IEC 62305-3<\/strong><\/em> section.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Isolated Conductor<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It is necessary to use <strong>isolated down conductors<\/strong> in tanks and silos, which are explosive and flammable facilities. Depending on the structure of the region, an isolated conductor resistant up to 200 kA can be selected. Also, lightning down conductors designed for ex-zones can be used in these facilities. The following factors should be considered when selecting an isolated conductor.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First of all, the isolated conductor should be selected according to the characteristics of the area used.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/en\/lightning-air-terminal-franklin-rod\/\"><strong>Air Terminal<\/strong><\/a> system must be insulated especially on metal surfaces and the conductor must pass internally.<\/li>\n<li>Isolated conductor clips must be <strong>ex-proof<\/strong> and selected with S separation distance according to the zone status of the protection area.<\/li>\n<li>The conductor surface must definitely be grounded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_5459\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"text-align: left;\">.<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>The conductor must be grounded inside the air terminal and the air terminal insulated area must be at a minimum distance of 1500 mm.<\/li>\n<li>The conductor cannot be lowered from the building in unlimited length, impedance losses must definitely be calculated.<\/li>\n<li>The conductor must definitely have suitability certificates for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Spark Gap and Equipotential<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Again, the external lightning protection system must be brought to equipotential with a spark gap arrester.
