AG Surge Arrester<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a> types are one of the most important elements for protection against lightning and overvoltage. However, the correct surge arrester class must be selected and applied in a facility. Basically, AG surge arresters are divided into 3 types: Class B, Class C, and Class D. Additionally, combined surge arrester systems such as B+C and B+C+D are also used.<\/p>\n

Class B Surge Arrester (Type 1)<\/span><\/h2>\n

Class B surge arresters provide protection according to the 10\/350 \u03bcs curve, i.e., protection against lightning strikes. They are also called Type 1<\/strong><\/em> or Class 1<\/strong><\/em>. Use of Class B surge arresters is mandatory in facilities with external lightning protection.<\/p>\n

Class C Surge Arrester (Type 2)<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Class C surge arresters provide protection according to the 8\/20 \u03bcs curve, i.e., protection against internal overvoltages. They are called Type 2 or Class 2 surge arresters. 65% of overvoltage-related damages are caused by internal overvoltages. Therefore, Class C surge arresters should be used in coordination with Class B surge arresters in every facility.<\/p>\n

Class D Surge Arrester (Type 3)<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Class D surge arresters are used for the protection of sensitive devices. With the increasing number of electronic devices, the Up protection level has decreased. To reduce this Up<\/strong><\/em> level to the desired value, Class D surge arresters are used.<\/p>\n
