Rectifiers, which consist of one or more semiconductor elements, are critical systems that convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). They contain multiple semiconductor power components. Rectifiers operating at DC voltages such as 12, 24, and 48 V are found everywhere, from the nacelle of a wind turbine to a computer power supply. For example, in a wind power plant, a fault current or transient overvoltage may reach an adjacent turbine due to potential differences. The rectifier boards, made of highly sensitive semiconductor elements, can fail in nanoseconds against such surges. Therefore, protection must be applied to both the AC and DC sides of the rectifier<\/strong><\/em>. Proper protection at the input of the board ensures that downstream systems remain safe.<\/p>\n

\"Raycap<\/figure>\n

As Lightning Protection Center<\/em>, we recommend using compact products at rectifier inputs. Since space is limited, for lightning impulses, B-class LV surge arresters<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and for mains surges, C-class LV surge arresters should be used. If uncoordinated products are selected, the C-class device may operate first, causing the system to go offline. Therefore, compact B+C class devices should be used on the AC side, and sensitive T\u0130P 2+3 devices for the DC side to ensure system protection. Installation is also important. A minimum 16 mm\u00b2 conductor should be used, and the grounding wire inside the rectifier should reach the busbar via the shortest path without unnecessary loops.<\/p>\n

Rectifiers, especially in power plants where sustainable energy production is critical, must be protected against lightning and mains surges with AG surge arrester systems.<\/p>\n
