Many prestigious projects are rising across the country, particularly in Istanbul. Newly developed concept projects also attract attention with the many opportunities they offer. The location of the project, its social facilities, and the advantages it provides are promoted across all platforms by project owners, and these projects find buyers worth thousands of liras. However, under these circumstances, there are many technical issues within projects that investors and buyers cannot fully understand. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" title=\"Equipotential Bonding and Lightning Protection in Residential Complexes\" href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/site-ve-toplu-konutlarda-es-potansiyel-ve-yildirimdan-korunma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Surge and lightning protection<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span> is one of the most critical among these topics.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As an institution that has been closely involved in this field for many years, we encounter deficiencies in implementation and design even in the most prestigious and comprehensive projects. Many companies and engineers undoubtedly perform their work properly. However, due to the traditional <em><strong>perception of lightning protection<\/strong><\/em> in our country and deficiencies in regulations, unfortunately many projects carry risks against surge and lightning impulses.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div>The TS EN 62305-1-2-3-4 standard defines the criteria for lightning protection systems in our country. Fundamentally, this standard emphasizes the importance of Faraday cage and internal lightning protection systems.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>In our facilities, in addition to the <strong>external lightning protection system<\/strong>, we must absolutely install internal lightning protection systems in our panels. Unfortunately, many projects are incorrectly protected with incomplete external lightning protection systems, and <strong>surge arrester<\/strong> products are used in very few projects.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3663\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3663\" style=\"width: 668px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/y%C4%B1ld%C4%B1r%C4%B1m-darbesi.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3663\" src=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/y%C4%B1ld%C4%B1r%C4%B1m-darbesi.jpg\" alt=\"Yap\u0131ya y\u0131ld\u0131r\u0131m d\u00fc\u015fmesi sonucu izledi\u011fi yol\" width=\"668\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3663\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Path followed when lightning strikes a structure<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensuring insulation of <strong>down conductors<\/strong> and conductors at risky points in Faraday cage systems<\/li>\n<li>If insulated cables resistant to lightning impulses (isCon) are not used, maintaining the \u2018S\u2019 separation distance specified in the TSE EN 62305 standard<\/li>\n<li>Ensuring that the thickness of the products used is selected according to the TSE EN 50164 standard is one of the most critical points<\/li>\n<li>When lightning strikes, it creates a magnetic field, and due to the impulse characteristic, surges may be induced into our facility through parallel lines; therefore, isolating the impulse as much as possible is extremely important<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>In systems designed according to the <strong>rolling sphere<\/strong> method, the coordination of the radius and the position of the air terminals is the most critical point of the entire project. In both systems, correct grounding, the use of <strong>exothermic welding<\/strong>, the availability of bimetal products where required, and the application of <strong>corrosion tape<\/strong> are of great importance.<\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3664\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3664\" style=\"width: 668px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/dis-yildiriml%C4%B1k-sistemleri.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3664\" src=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/dis-yildiriml%C4%B1k-sistemleri.jpg\" alt=\"D\u0131\u015f y\u0131ld\u0131r\u0131ml\u0131k sistemleri y\u0131ld\u0131r\u0131m ve a\u015f\u0131r\u0131 gerilimden korunman\u0131n en temel unsurudur.\" width=\"668\" height=\"223\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3664\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">External lightning protection systems are the fundamental element of protection against lightning and surge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The most critical aspect at the grounding point is taking precautions against <strong>step voltage<\/strong>. If precautions are not taken at the grounding initiation point with copper meshes and a safety perimeter is not implemented, it may lead to people being exposed to electric current in the future. Indeed, this frequently neglected issue in many residential projects poses a serious danger. In external lightning protection systems, it must be ensured that the voltage is safely conducted and discharged, and the use of <strong>spark gap<\/strong> connection devices at grounding points is vital for both human life and electronic system safety.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" title=\"Internal Lightning Protection\" href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/en\/ag-surge-arrester-internal-lightning-protection-systems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Internal lightning protection systems<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span> ensure the safety of electronic systems against <strong>lightning and surge<\/strong>. Incoming impulses to the facility can damage all devices, and it should not be forgotten that buildings equipped with external lightning protection systems must also include internal lightning protection systems. Internal lightning protection systems are classified as Class B, Class C, Class B+C, and Class D.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Class B, C and B+C<\/strong> systems are panel protections connected in <strong>parallel<\/strong>, while <strong>Class D<\/strong> systems are installed <strong>in series<\/strong> in front of devices. Class B provides protection against lightning, while Class C and D protect against other impulse types. In panel connections, minimum <strong>cable cross-sections<\/strong> of <strong>16 mm\u00b2<\/strong> for Class B, <strong>6 mm\u00b2<\/strong> for Class C, and <strong>1.5 mm\u00b2<\/strong> for Class D must be used, and <strong>grounding type<\/strong> must be considered when selecting products.<\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3665\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3665\" style=\"width: 668px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/parafudr-siniflari.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3665\" src=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/parafudr-siniflari.jpg\" alt=\"Do\u011fru i\u00e7 y\u0131ld\u0131r\u0131ml\u0131k sisteminin se\u00e7ilmesi b\u00fcy\u00fck \u00f6nem ta\u015f\u0131maktad\u0131r.\" width=\"668\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/parafudr-siniflari.jpg 668w, https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/parafudr-siniflari-300x91.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 668px) 100vw, 668px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3665\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Selecting the correct internal lightning protection system is of great importance<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>TT, TN-S, TN-C differentiated <em><strong>ground\u2013neutral<\/strong><\/em> configurations are important in product selection. When connecting surge arresters, V-connection and minimizing cable length are essential. The grounding conductor should not circulate excessively inside the panel and must be routed to the grounding bar via the shortest path for system safety. When necessary, surge arresters can also be integrated into the system via a separate panel under the name <strong>LVSPD<\/strong>. Our goal is to direct impulses under our control, and therefore resistance values to be obtained are defined by standards. Additionally, measurements conducted to ensure the <strong>equipotential<\/strong> system are equally important. An equipotential difference above <strong>0.2 ohms<\/strong> within a facility poses a risk. All grounding systems, including lightning protection systems, must be collected via local equipotential bars and connected to the main <a title=\"Equipotential System Components\" href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/en\/equipotential-system-components\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em><strong>equipotential bar<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a> to ensure <strong>resistance equality<\/strong>. However, once this process is performed, surge arresters must absolutely be used.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><a title=\"Grounding Equipment\" href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/en\/grounding-equipment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>During foundation grounding<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>;<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Strips must be selected with a thickness of 70 microns<\/li>\n<li>Exothermic welding must be applied<\/li>\n<li>Connection equipment thickness must not be below 3 mm<\/li>\n<li>Corrosion tape must be used<\/li>\n<li>Strip extensions must be routed outside the building from mesh system corners<\/li>\n<li>Perfect bonding with reinforcement steel must be ensured<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<div><em><strong>Attention by expert teams to mesh density and symmetry will increase the building\u2019s safety factor.<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>In conclusion, application engineering is extremely important in <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" title=\"Importance of Application in Lightning Protection Systems\" href=\"https:\/\/yilkomer.com\/yildirimdan-korunma-sistemleri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lightning protection and grounding<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span> systems.
